Initiative to Amend the Law on Higher Education

The academic community should elect the rector

The essence of the Initiative is a direct and democratic election of the rector, in which the rector would be elected by members of the academic community: professors, researchers, teaching assistants, non-academic staff and students.

Its seventy proposers believe this model would be an important step towards democratisation, stronger autonomy for the academic community and less influence for informal interest groups within the higher education system.
